George Brown College is pleased to announce that our School of Early Childhood’s 12 Lab School Child Care Centres have “opted in” to the Ontario supported Canada Wide Early Learning Child Care system. We look forward to collaborating with the Ministry of Education and the City of Toronto Children’s Services in the implementation of this transformational child care system. We join other stakeholders and community partners in our support of this opportunity to expand and build a strong publicly managed early years system. This agreement enables our college to continue to provide high-quality accessible child care programs to the many families currently utilizing our centres and enables families ongoing access to child care subsidy. The implementation of a staged fee reduction will allow many families access to child care who have not been able to do so up to now. All children and families deserve access to high-quality, affordable and inclusive licensed childcare.

We know that the early years in a child’s life set the foundation for lifelong learning, behaviour and health. The GBC Lab School Child Care Centres enable us to provide and promote high-quality programs that support this critical time in a young child’s life. These Lab School Child Care Centres enable GBC to support a qualified workforce by providing a model professional work environment for student educators to learn, practise and develop into the early childhood educators that are needed in our communities.

George Brown College is proud of our commitment to educate and prepare a quality workforce ready to meet the demands of this expanding licensed child care system that will support children and families across our broader communities.
