Small group of dance students back on campus

George Brown College welcomed back a small group of dancers from the college’s Commercial Dance Program on September 21. These students will now be able to complete the final in-person component of their program required to graduate.

"It’s great to have a routine, somewhere to go and somewhere to be,” said one of our dance students. “We are back to work dancing, learning and stretching our creative muscles together in space with others!"

George Brown’s dance students complete their training with the college’s partner in dance education, Canada’s Ballet Jörgen.

“Being able to bring these students back for the final practical element of their program is tremendously important to honour their resilience, and to allow them to move on into the professional dance world,” said Bengt Jörgen, Artistic Director, George Brown Dance.

The college has taken several precautions to ensure our dance students stay safe while on campus. The students are wearing masks, and they have dedicated studios, change rooms and break rooms for their use only. In addition, the studio floors are marked to maintain physical distancing and the studio spaces are being rigorously cleaned on a daily basis.

“Professional dancers are in the same category as elite athletes – their ability to practice daily is essential for their success and development,” says Clea Iveson, Education Manager, George Brown Dance. “We are so tremendously grateful to be back to work.”

Online dance classes are currently running for returning and incoming dance students who do not yet have access to campus.
