Summer in Ontario, 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.

Find out more about Ontario's beautiful and picturesque locations you can visit in the spring and summertime, all within a short trip from the city. In this session, the Student Life team will share their picks on different places to visit, and what to do in the city during the coming months.

In conversation with Nadia George. Indigenous Activist, and Social Media Influencer, 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

Kaqtikew E'pit (Thunderwoman) better known as Nadia George, is of Mi'kmaw First Nation and Canadian descent and an award winning actor, media personality, and public educator based in Toronto, with over a decade of professional experience in Social Services specializing in Trauma Informed care.

Nadia’s has gained recognition by using her voice and platform to empower youth and women, address stigmas around contemporary Indigenous identity, and advocate for the equity of Indigenous Communities and People in Canada.

Join Student Life in this discussion as we chat about challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples, including the water crisis, education, and health.

Ice on Fire, with GreenGBC, 12:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M.

Interested in taking care of your environment and how you can reduce your impact on the planet? Then join us as we meet the GBC Sustainability Squad to learn what actions they're taking here at GBC and in the community around them. We'll feature HBO's film Ice on Fire, an eye-opening documentary that focuses on many never-before-seen solutions designed to slow down our escalating environmental crisis, and have a discussion to follow to find out how this new perspective can help you become more environmentally aware.

Volunteerism 101, 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.

Join the Coordinator Student Life Volunteer & Engagement Initiatives as he discusses what the Student Leadership Academy (SLA) volunteer program is at George Brown College. Learn how you can get involved by giving back to the community, and understanding what your rights and responsibilities are when you are in a volunteer role. The SLA program helps you develop your soft skills and also includes mandatory training modules like the AODA and Anti-Racism Training. Once registered for the event, your participant link will be sent to you.

Leading as a Leader, 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.

Join the Coordinator, Co-curricular Experiential Learning and Leadership Development, Matt Harris, for this session to learn about different types of leadership and understand your individual leadership style. You'll find out how leadership roles among peers may be challenging and rewarding in uniquely different ways.

Mission, Vision, Values, 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

Do you have a mission? What's your vision? And how are these affected by your values? By attending this session, you will be given the opportunity to reflect on your values and assess how they drive who you are as a leader. We'll take you through an activity where you can author your own personal mission statement, honed from your individual values, and imagine a vision for yourself that is reflective of your mission and values.

RBC x GBC: The Art of Networking, 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M.

Introducing the newest RBC x GBC event: The Art of Networking. Do you struggle with expanding your network and reaching out to other professionals in your field? Or do you simply want to strengthen your networking skills to get the most of your connections? Join Robertha Alvarez for this event where she'll share her top networking tips you can use and apply to your skillset. Robertha will also share new graduate and student opportunities that are available at RBC so be sure to join!

The Voice of the Future: Your Voice!, 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M.

In this hour focus group, you will have the opportunity to share your feedback regarding both a leadership program and an exciting new program for students. Only three things are needed: a willingness to share an honest constructive opinion; an openness to sharing your opinion,  either verbally or written; and a hope to make the GBC experience better for future students.

An Introduction to Mindfulness, 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. 

Mindfulness is about being present in the moment in a kind way. In this workshop, learn simple practices to care for your mind and body in times of stress, and learn how to apply them to your daily life. With guest counsellor and facilitator, Nadia Stolpner.

Financing Post-Secondary School Education with WealthSimple, 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. 

Join this session to learn about how to maximize your savings for post-secondary education. This session will include information on the Canada Learning Bond (CLB) an up to $2,000 government grant that can be easily accessed by students from modest-income families to help pay for college.

It offers the opportunity for you to reflect on your own experiences of stress, big and small, and to consider the strategies at your disposal to achieve more manageable levels of stress in your life.

Right or wrong? Join us for this discussion and short video on an ethical decision-making process that protects you, organizations, and makes it a better place to work altogether. Ethics matter. It's not just the big scandals you see in the news, but the small everyday decisions that add up, too. In fact, that's where you need to draw the line, with the little things, before serious damage is done.

Become an Entrepreneurship Rising Star with startGBC, 12:00 P.M. - 2:30 P.M.

Did you know that GBC has its own entrepreneurship hub at the college? This excellent team has resources, knowledge, contacts, and mentors that you don't want to miss!  Find out more about the team and how they can help you get your startup off the ground. This session will also include a short screening of the film "The Founder", about the startup of a multi-billion dollar empire, followed by an open discussion.
