Support Fred Kan Memorial Scholarship at George Brown College

Fred Kan (February 7, 1977 - November 14, 2012) was a charismatic graduate from the Food Service Management Certificate program. His love of the culinary industry led him to an entrepreneurial career path around the world seeking new challenges.

After graduating from George Brown College, Fred went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Hospitality and studied abroad in France and Taiwan. Throughout his career, Fred remained passionate about food and wine. His career took off when he moved to Shanghai and explored multiple culinary opportunities such as; cooking shows, fine dining restaurants management, and the establishment of his own restaurant called Pho Real. Fred's unique creation and twist on Vietnam cuisine earned him many awards and recognitions over the years, but he never lost sight of the real thing - cooking from the heart. Despite his successes in the culinary industry, he continued to be compassionate for others and gave back to his community.

The Fred Kan Memorial Scholarship is created to support the advancement of the education of students at George Brown College's Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts, Chef School.

Scholarships will be awarded to a full-time student in the Chef School who demonstrate strong leadership qualities through extracurricular activities and volunteer community service.

Fred's legacy can be found in different cities around China, and his passion for culinary arts can also be seen on a never released pilot that he starred in for a Food & Travel TV show, titled the World is My Dining Table.
