Support the Lynda Roy Community and Social Services Scholarship

Lynda Roy

Lynda Roy joined the Assaulted Women and Children’s Counseling and Advocacy (AWCCA) program in 2013 and left an indelible mark on the students that she taught and the AWCCA faculty.

Lynda was a dynamic and passionate woman, sharing a dry sense of humour as she navigated against barriers related to the experiences of sexism and ableism. Lynda made a difference to all who knew her throughout her life. On August 20th, 2015, Lynda passed suddenly while travelling with her partner.

Lynda was a leader and was influential in advocating for responsive and inclusive services for all women and children fleeing violence. During her teaching, Lynda was also the Program Coordinator of the Women with Disabilities and Deaf Women’s Program at Springtide Resources, working closely with services within the violence against women sectors to ensure inclusive responses to disabled women and their children seeking supports. As well, Lynda worked at Vibrant Health Alliance (formerly known as the Anne Johnston Health Station) providing one-to-one supports to individuals with disabilities with a particular interest in addressing the systemic inequities experienced by the larger disability communities. Social justice and disability justice informed Lynda’s work both in the creation of agency policies and practices, as well as in her approach to teaching.

The Lynda Roy Community and Social Services Scholarship will support AWCCA students facing obstacles to their education including financial barriers and who exhibit the passion and energy to facilitate and create change for greater inclusion and access, qualities for which Lynda was so well known.

Donations to the Lynda Roy Community and Social Services School Scholarship will elicit a tax receipt for the full amount. 100% of your donation will directly go to support the scholarship.
