Who was Luigi Ferritto?

Luigi Ferritto was born in Napoli, Italy in 1956 and immigrated to Canada at the age of 11.  At the age of 21, he lost his leg to cancer and had to take a job in a jewellery manufacturing company.

Although he was not formally trained in jewellery making, he learned quickly by observing his peers and applied his already considerable art skills to his work.  In 1988 he opened his own jewellery store, called Creative Gold Jewellery, and managed it for 20 years.  He closed his business in 2008 and worked as a repairman for Omni Jewelcrafters.  Lui died on April 5, 2018, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.  George Brown Polytechnic’s Lui Ferritto Memorial Scholarship was created by his family as a way of honouring his memory.
