Biography

Evelyn Chan is an Educational Technology and Digital Content Specialist at the Teaching and Learning Exchange (TLX) at George Brown Polytechnic. She brings extensive experience in learning experience design, educational technology integration, accessibility, and digital content development across higher education and workplace learning environments.

Evelyn previously worked with Sheridan College and Workplace Safety and Prevention Services (WSPS), where she collaborated with subject matter experts to develop OntarioLearn courses and design Occupational Health and Safety learning materials for organizations including the Canadian Space Agency, secondary schools, and OCAD University.

She holds a Master of Digital Media (MDM) from Toronto Metropolitan University and is a Quality Matters Certified Master Reviewer. As a QM Certified Master Reviewer, she also serves as a review chair, leading course review teams in evaluating course design and alignment with Quality Matters standards. Her work is grounded in evidence-informed approaches to quality, accessible, and inclusive online learning.

At George Brown Polytechnic, Evelyn partners with faculty, academic units, and program teams to enhance online, hybrid, and web-enhanced learning. Her work includes digital content creation, interactive learning design, instructional video development, accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), online pedagogy, and the effective integration of educational technologies.

Evelyn is the Principal Investigator of a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research project examining the role of generative AI in higher education. Her current research explores AI transparency statements as a pedagogical strategy to support student agency, reflection, AI literacy, and responsible AI use in authentic assessment. Her research examines how students make and articulate decisions about AI use and how transparency can help shift conversations about AI from compliance toward reflection and learning.

She is the author of multiple open-access Pressbooks published through eCampusOntario, focusing on quality online learning, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), inclusive design, educational technology, and the ethical integration of emerging technologies in higher education. Her work reflects a strong commitment to faculty development, accessibility, and advancing institutional approaches to digital learning.

Evelyn also supports faculty through consultations and professional learning workshops, with expertise in online pedagogy, UDL, Quality Matters standards, Brightspace, interactive learning technologies, and digital content development.

In support of accessible and inclusive learning environments, Evelyn has earned an American Sign Language (ASL) certificate and completed specialized ASL training for EMS and first responders. This training supports her ability to provide basic communication assistance in emergency situations.
