Main Content

George Brown Polytechnic posted/implemented a Freedom of Expression policy on January 1, 2019.  The policy is in line with what was drafted by the Colleges Ontario task force on the Freedom of Speech policy. The George Brown Polytechnic policy works in conjunction with the following college policies: Academic Code of Conduct, Code of Student and Community Standards, Employee Codes of Conduct, Human Rights Discrimination and Harassment, Use of College Facilities for Advocacy Purposes.

Our policy specifies that any freedom of speech-related questions or complaints should be directed to George Brown Polytechnic’s Office of Anti-Racism, Equity and Human Rights Services.

Speech that constitutes harassment, threats or hate speech, and that violates the Ontario Human Rights is not allowed. George Brown, and other colleges, will use existing processes to handle complaints and ensure policy compliance.

The policy applies to college faculty, students, employees and visitors.
