The Gordon and Ruth Gooder Charitable Foundation is investing $300,000 to help more young people access education, develop in-demand skills, and build pathways to meaningful employment.

A $500,000 gift from Scotiabank’s ScotiaRISE initiative will help George Brown Polytechnic expand the ReNEW Career Readiness Program, supporting internationally trained professionals and funding scholarships for women and girls facing barriers to education and employment.

Education is about more than career preparation—it’s also about learning how to participate meaningfully in society. That message was at the heart of the 2026 Social Justice Conference at George Brown Polytechnic, which welcomed more than 200 Grade 11 and 12 students for an impactful day of learning focused on social and restorative justice.

This new pathway, supported by the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT), will drive newcomer success in health care.
