George Brown's Early Childhood Education (Accelerated) program will prepare you for a rewarding career in a rapidly evolving sector. This condensed, 16-month version of our two-year diploma program will teach you to work with children from six weeks to 12 years of age in a variety of early childhood education settings.

The Child and Youth Care program will prepare you to work effectively with children, adolescents and families who are experiencing social, emotional, developmental and behavioural challenges. The program integrates a holistic approach embedding an ecological perspective and principles of human rights, anti-oppressive practice, resiliency and restorative practice.

The Community Worker program prepares students to work for progressive social change with organizations, communities, and individuals across a range of issues such as poverty, housing, legal rights, discrimination, food justice, immigration and refugee settlement.

The Social Service Worker diploma program combines in-class learning with field experience to teach you the skills you need to succeed. You will study theoretical models and approaches to practice as you develop skills in group facilitation, mental health supports, social innovation and anti-oppressive practice. Please note that while the program is classroom-based, a few specific courses offer online sections to enhance access.

Graduates of this program are eligible to register with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).

George Brown Polytechnic’s Human Services Foundations (A113) is a two-semester program designed to kick-start your career journey. Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas is a one-year program that will prepare you for admission to a variety of Health Sciences certificate and diploma programs, including our Practical Nursing (S121) program. You’ll take courses in biology, chemistry, applied math, communications, career readiness preparation and general electives. You’ll also benefit from the support of a pathway specialist who will help you navigate college and create a realistic action plan for the next steps in your education.

In the Hearing Instrument Specialist program you will learn the specialized skills required to work as a hearing health-care professional. You will develop people skills and will learn how to use the latest technology to assess appropriate hearing solutions for those in need. For applicants with a relevant degree or diploma, we offer an opportunity for advanced standing into semester 3 of the program.

The practice-oriented and hands-on Orthotic/Prosthetic Technician program will teach you to be competent with many hand tools and specialized machines used in the fabrication of orthotic and prosthetic devices.

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program will teach you the skills required to provide or assist with personal care for the elderly, the chronically ill and persons with accessibility challenges. These patients may live in the community, in long-term care facilities or in select ambulatory care settings.

Classes for this two-semester program are held at our state-of-the-art Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences at Waterfront Campus and are scheduled between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. Students can expect to participate in unpaid faculty-supervised clinical practicums that take place in various settings across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Shift hours may vary between day and/or evenings depending upon the practice setting and may start as early as 6:30 a.m.

George Brown Polytechnic's Practical Nursing program will teach you the foundational skills required to work as a registered practical nurse in Ontario. Following successful completion of this program, you will be eligible to write the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) Registration Examinations – two qualifying examinations required by the Ontario College of Nurses.
