Program Description

Leadership Claims

Be immersed in a unique interprofessional education experience that includes developing your skills in our accredited Simulation Centre as you learn to become a vital member of an allied health care team.

Program Overview

Become a dual-trained Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA & PTA). This program will prepare you to work with occupational therapists and physiotherapists to support individuals with diverse physical, cognitive, emotional, and developmental conditions to achieve their health care goals.

Full Description

The Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA & PTA) program at George Brown will equip you with the essential skills needed for a career in today's complex health care environments. In this dual-trained field, you will work with occupational therapists and physiotherapists to support individuals with diverse physical, cognitive, emotional, and developmental conditions as they work toward their health and rehabilitation goals.

Interprofessional Approach to Learning

Using an interprofessional approach, you will learn to assist with the implementation of treatment plans and programs across the lifespan—from children to older adults and throughout the continuum of care. Classroom learning, hands-on labs, and clinical field placements will help you connect theory to real-world practice.

You will also gain experience collaborating as a member of an allied health care team.

Develop Hands-On Experience

To prepare for the field, you will learn and practice your skills in our accredited Simulation Centre, a 23,000+ square foot facility equipped with leading-edge technology. Here you will work alongside Occupational Therapist Assistants and Physiotherapist Assistants to build confidence and competence in a safe and supportive environment.

Learn From Faculty Experts

Our faculty is made up of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Pathologists and Kinesiologists. They are active in their respective fields and maintain current clinical practice, attend professional meetings and participate in ongoing professional development. This ensures our program continues to meet the needs of the sector by offering content that is current, relevant and comprehensive.

Your Field Education Options

Develop your skills and gain hands-on experience through unpaid clinical field placements offered in Semesters 2, 3, and 4.

You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of health care environments that include some of Canada’s leading teaching hospitals.

These placements will help you build the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours you need to provide effective treatment to clients and patients with movement limitations and challenges in daily functioning.
