Now accepting applications for the Fall 2026 intake.

The ReNEW: Workforce Readiness for Internationally Trained Professionals program equips internationally educated newcomers with career readiness skills to re-establish themselves as professionals in Canada. Through faculty-led synchronous in-person and online learning as well as industry and community partner-led workshops, newcomers will develop career knowledge and skills, acquire Canadian financial literacy training, cultivate social and professional networks, receive community referrals, and develop a tailored action plan for their career pathway.

The ReNEW program is available at no cost to those who are accepted and it is made possible through a generous donation from Scotiabank.

This program will be delivered in a hybrid format that includes both in-person and online instruction. In-person classes are delivered at George Brown Polytechnic by the School of English as a Second Language and Immigrant Education, located at St. James Campus, Toronto, ON. Online classes are delivered live through D2L Brightspace or MS Teams.

To participate in the program, students must have access to a computer with Internet access, a working camera, and a microphone.
Participants must commit to the full 10-week program, including all in-person and online classes and sessions.

Eligible applicants will be invited to take part in an in-person group interview as well as a written English language test as part of the program selection and admissions process. Participation in this interview and testing process does not guarantee program admission.

Will you be studying in any other academic program at George Brown Polytechnic or another academic institution during the Fall 2026 semester (September - December 2026)?
To fully benefit and succeed in the program, participants must hold a post-secondary level education credential (earned outside of Canada) and a minimum of (2) years of previous work experience from outside of Canada. 

Participants will be expected to complete a survey for research purposes by George Brown Polytechnic before the start of the program, upon program completion, and post-program. This data collection process is important for understanding ReNEW’s impacts and supporting the program’s sustainability for future ReNEW participants.

Applicants may be asked to submit a 3-minute video or a 500-word essay on why they wish to study in the ReNEW program and how the program will benefit them.
Please note that not all applicants will be accepted into the ReNEW program. Only applicants who have satisfied all of the program's admission requirements will be considered for acceptance into the ReNEW program.

Admission Requirement Documents:

Language Level:

  • Minimum CLB test score of 7 in each section, assessment taken within two years

or

  • Minimum IELTS Academic overall test score of 5.5, in addition to a minimum test score of 5.5 in each of the Writing and Speaking sections, assessment taken within two years

or

  • Completed Level 8 of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP R105) program at George Brown Polytechnic (unofficial George Brown Polytechnic academic transcript from Stu-view)

or

  • Completed Level ESL IIIB Advanced Course of the Continuing Education English as a Second Language (ESL R901) program at George Brown Polytechnic (unofficial George Brown Polytechnic academic transcript from STU-VIEW)

Proof of Status:

All applicants must hold one of the following statuses: Canadian Permanent Resident, Convention Refugee/Protected Person, Recent Canadian Citizen (arrival to Canada is within 5 years of program start date), CUAET Visa Holder with valid Work Permit, or Refugee Claimant with valid Work Permit, or MOME2023 Visa Holder with valid Work Permit.

For Permanent Residence card, please submit both the front and back sides of the card.
