George Brown College President Dr. Gervan Fearon has been honoured with a 2022 Bob Marley Day award. He’s among eight distinguished Canadians recognized for demonstrating and fostering the values Marley sang about.
“Bob Marley’s songs speak to truth and realities faced by so many individuals, but at their core, they also represent triumph, resiliency and a look towards the future,” Fearon said.
“His songs and his work have been inspiring across the world and to me.”
For the past 31 years, the City of Toronto has proclaimed the reggae icon’s birthday, February 6, as Bob Marley Day. Toronto Mayor John Tory saluted the 2022 award recipients as part of an online awards celebration.
“I am so thankful for all that you do, embodying Bob Marley’s spirit and mission in your work creating a more just and peaceful world together. And by extension, that’s creating a better Toronto for all of us,” Tory said.
