George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn, work and live in the community with each other.
George Brown Polytechnic recently welcomed leaders from across Canada and the United States to the 2026 National Association of Campus Auxiliary Services (NACAS) Canada Connect and Exchange Conference, marking the first time a college or polytechnic has hosted the national event.
Held at Limberlost Place, the conference brought together more than 80 professionals in ancillary and campus services to discuss the evolving challenges and opportunities facing post-secondary institutions. Hosted in partnership with George Brown's Business Services, the team showcased the polytechnic’s innovative facilities and student-focused operations.
Supporting students in a rapidly evolving higher education landscape
Throughout the two-day conference, delegates explored how ancillary services, including housing, dining, retail, and events, support student success while contributing to institutional sustainability.
Discussions focused on responding to changing enrolment trends, financial pressures, and evolving student expectations. Through presentations, roundtables, networking, and campus tours of George Brown’s Waterfront Campus and The George residence, attendees shared strategies and best practices for delivering high-quality, financially sustainable services.
The conference reinforced the vital role ancillary services play in enhancing the student experience, generating revenue, and building vibrant campus communities.
Showcasing George Brown's leadership
For George Brown, hosting the conference highlighted the institution's commitment to delivering services that support student success while responding to the realities of a rapidly changing post-secondary environment.
"It was an honour to showcase George Brown and our Business Services portfolio at this year's conference," said Ryan Sargent, Director, Business Services & Procurement. "Our team learned so much from colleagues across the sector and was reminded of the important role ancillary services play in shaping the overall campus experience."
As institutions continue to navigate an evolving higher education landscape, the conference underscored the value of collaboration, innovation, and student-centred services in building sustainable campuses for the future.
