Andrea is from Venezuela. Before coming to George Brown College, she obtained an undergraduate degree in business administration and had ten years of experience in Venezuela’s banking sector. She was originally attracted to George Brown because of its widely recognized reputation as a career-focused public institution.
“My experience at George Brown broadened my cultural horizons and heightened my discipline and commitment to success in learning,” says Andrea. She particularly enjoyed her experiences getting to know other George Brown students and gaining hands-on work experience. “The international Student body brought cross-cultural perspectives,” she says, “Exposure to successful George Brown Alumni contributed to my understanding of the Canadian business environment.” Currently Andrea is taking a certificate in financial planning, and plans to complete her CFA training.Before coming to George Brown College, Antonia graduated from Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture. In the Ukraine she worked as an interior designer and fine arts instructor. When she decided she wanted to study graphic design, Antonia had strong reasons for choosing George Brown College.
“Only George Brown has the post-graduate program that I was looking for. Digital design is developing very fast nowadays and it's important to follow it. My program has a bit of everything, which is demanded in this field. So you can try everything and decide what exactly you want to develop more.” Once Antonia started attending George Brown she wasn’t disappointed. “The classes were designed to give us up-to-date skills required in the design industry. I'm applying these skills in my current work project.” Currently, Antonia is working on a web design project for the George Brown College Office of Research and Innovation.Impressed by the positive reviews the College received, Kiran enrolled in the Business school at George Brown. He was pleased to discover that, in addition to building valuable career skills, he was having fun.
“I enjoyed the exciting and interactive nature of George Brown’s classes,” says Kiran. He also formed many lasting relationships during his time at George Brown College, including those with two of his Professors, Harmeet Kholi and Anu Harder. “I couldn’t have asked for more,” says Kiran, “I learnt great marketing techniques and the teaching methodology really impressed me.” Kiran believes George Brown gave him a chance to make his mark. He now works for ITN Logistics, one of the largest logistics providers in Toronto.“First of all, I would like to say thanks to George Brown College. Through the Hotel Management program, I was equipped with applicable and useful skills that are needed in the actual job field. Moreover, I got a great opportunity to start my career in the hospitality industry during the co-op program.” Jindo Kim now enjoys his role as Transient Metro Market Support with Starwood Hotels and Resorts. “George Brown College gave me an opportunity to successfully start my career with a wide knowledge of Business aspects and the latest trends in the world of Marketing. It is a reputable institution that provides students with excellent education, interesting courses and real life experience of the Profession. I strongly recommend this College to all International Students.” Maria is fortunate enough to now be employed as the Sales and Marketing Coordinator at the prestigious Park Hyatt Toronto. “I wanted to study in a place I could see myself living… George Brown is located in the heart of a multicultural city, which was important to me.” Robin now works as a Client Service Representative for Data Impeccable Inc. Before coming to George Brown College Satvir completed his Bachelors in Engineering at Pune University in India. When Satvir decided to study in Canada, he devoted careful consideration to selecting a program.
“I was interested in opting for a business program that would enable me to build a strong conceptual foundation,” says Satvir. George Brown proved to be a good choice. “I liked the fact that I could learn and earn at the same time. I made friends from around the globe.” Satvir also found there were some major benefits to George Brown’s location in downtown Toronto. “Standing on GBC's patio one can see the towers of some of the city’s major organizations such as TD Canada Trust, Scotiabank and KPMG. The Financial District is literally a 10 minute walking distance from GBC.” Currently, Satvir is working at TD Canada Trust as a Financial Analyst.Sheldon was attracted to George Brown College by the College’s reputation and the practical skills it offered through courses and co-ops. Sheldon found that, in addition to advancing his career, attending George Brown helped him on a personal level.
“It gave my confidence a boost,” says Sheldon,” Before going into the course I was very anxious because I hadn't been a student for over 10 years and I was making a career change.” Despite his initial nerves, Sheldon quickly found himself feeling at home. “I met some wonderful people at George Brown and many of us remain connected through LinkedIn and alumni groups.” Sheldon is currently working at software company Sym-Tech Inc.After completing High School in New Zealand, Trinity began considering universities in New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
“George Brown stood out among my options because of its location, curriculum design, flexibility, career assistance, and internship opportunities,” says Trinity. Trinity enjoyed the career-centered approach George Brown took to education. She also formed lasting friendships with students and staff at George Brown. “Everyone at the International Centre is very helpful” says Trinity, “Alumni Officer Trisha Grace helped me improve my resume and explore career opportunities after graduation. The Marketing program coordinator gave me quite thoughtful guidelines as well.” Trinity has joined the staff at George Brown’s International Centre, where she currently works as a Recruitment Assistant.
