Vaccine verification - employees

George Brown College’s revised vaccine policy is effective immediately. It states that to access campus, all students, employees, contractors, visitors and volunteers coming onto college premises are required to be fully vaccinated by November 1, 2021. Rapid testing will be available on campus until November 1 while individuals are getting fully vaccinated in compliance with this policy. 

Specific students and employees will be required to show proof of full vaccination as of October 2. They include:  

  • Students and employees participating in varsity athletics,  
  • Students participating in in-person work-integrated learning activities and or placements (virtual placements are excluded), and 
  • Students living at George Brown’s residence, The George. 

You are considered fully vaccinated when you have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines approved by the Government of Canada — AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech or one dose of Johnson & Johnson.

International students may have accessed additional vaccines evaluated by the World Health that met the necessary criteria for safety and efficacy, including Sinopharm, Sinovac, and others. On September 22, 2021, the provincial government of Ontario updated legislation indicating that these vaccines are no longer accepted, and as such do not meet the criteria under George Brown’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. To that end, for individuals who have not had a full series of government-authorized vaccines as listed above, additional vaccinations may be required in order to be considered fully vaccinated.

Verification platform

George Brown College is using a secure platform called Verified by Synergy Gateway to verify vaccination status and to consider medical accommodation requests. This process is called COVID-19 Vaccination Verification (CVV) by Synergy Gateway. Requests for religious/creed accommodations will be reviewed and considered by the college directly.   

Once you complete the CVV process on the Verified by Synergy Gateway platform, you will get a COVID-19 Vaccine Compliance Card that you can display on your mobile device or print out to show at campus entry points.  

We encourage all employees to get vaccinated and to upload your vaccination documents to Verified by Synergy Gateway now, even if you’re not scheduled to access campus in the immediate future.  

What employees need to do next

In the coming days, all employees will receive an email from that includes your username and temporary password. This email will be titled, “Your Access to Verified.” Please follow the instructions in the email to complete the following steps:  

Log in

Log in to the Verified by Synergy Gateway platform using your username and temporary password, and then change your password.  

We recommend using the following web browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge (Safari is not supported).


Upload your documents

From the “Home” tab, navigate to Step 1, select the “Documents Upload” button, and upload your COVID-19 proof of full vaccination for review.  

  • If you received your vaccinations in Ontario, you can download PDF versions of your vaccine receipts at
  • Please ensure that all vaccination documents uploaded clearly have your name, vaccination date(s), vaccine provider name, dose number and are transcribed in English.  Only official documents will be accepted as proof of vaccination. 

Update your vaccination details

Visit the “Vaccinations” tab and select the “Open” button to update your COVID-19 vaccination details. You will need to list the Vaccine Provider and Date of Injection for your COVID-19 vaccination(s).  

Read the disclaimer

Read through the disclaimer and complete the check box.  Finally, click “ACCEPT.”  

Access your vaccination verification certificate

Check your Verified account regularly as your vaccination status will be updated within three to five days. You will be able to download your Vaccine Compliance Card when your status is set. In the meantime, you must continue to show hard-copy proof of vaccination or complete rapid testing when arriving on campus.

I can’t find the email from Synergy with my login information. What do I do?

Employees who can’t find the email sent by Synergy Gateway in September 2021, can take the steps below to activate their accounts. 

  1. Visit 
  1. Select the “Forgot Password/Resent Password” link and follow the instructions. 
  1. Enter your George Brown College email address in the “Request Password” pop-up window. 
  1. Check your inbox for an email from with the title “Your Access to Verified.” 
  1. Open the email and select the “Activation” link. 
  1. Follow the instructions to reset your password. 

Once employees reset their password and log in, they can upload their vaccine verification documents.

Why do I need to verify my vaccination status with the college if the province of Ontario is introducing vaccine passports?

While the provincial government is introducing a proof of vaccination program, it will only service Ontarians. The George Brown community comes from across the country and around the world, and we require a system that the entire college community can use – both domestic and international students. 

In addition, Synergy Gateway provides the stats and data that are needed to fulfill the college’s reporting obligations to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. This will ensure we are able to report accurate and timely information. 

What if I'm an employee who does not want to get vaccinated and I don't qualify for an accommodation?

As with all college policies, procedures and guidelines, employees will be expected to abide by the college’s vaccination policy as part of their conditions of employment. Employees who do not comply and do not have an approved medical or religious/creed accommodation will subject to sanctions, which could include cancellation of contracts, being placed on an unpaid leave and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination. 

Can I get vaccinated on campus?

Yes. George Brown College is hosting the GOVAXX mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinic on September 15 and 16. We are also hosting Toronto Public Health vaccination clinics starting September 20.
