How can I improve my GPA for admissions into another program or school?

Students may repeat a course for a maximum of two times. Upon completing a repeated course, the higher grade will be used in the calculation of the GPA.

Please see the Office of the Registrar Policy on Failed and Repeated Courses.

When additional general electives or liberal studies courses have been taken, it is the student’s responsibility to inform the Academic Records Office to include the appropriate courses in the GPA. This is applied to general or liberal studies courses that are taken outside of the prescribed program course requirements (e.g., Continuing Education courses). Please send an inquiry to the Academic Records Office.

All registered and/or completed courses are recorded on the academic record, including all failed and/or repeated courses.

You will need to determine, via your Academic department, if the course you wish to repeat is being taught and if there is space in the class. Students taking courses for the first time will be given priority for registration.

Some courses are available through our School of Continuing Education. However, the Continuing Education course page must show "Full-time Equivalent(s)" in the course descriptions for it to be included in GPA calculations. For example, COMM 1162 Introduction to College Communication indicates "Full-time Equivalent: COMM 1000". This means that if you want to retake COMM 1000 Introduction to College Communication, you can take COMM 1162 through Continuing Education and it will be part of your GPA calculations.
