The majority of the ScotiaRISE $500,000 donation will fund the two-year ReNEW career readiness program for internationally trained professionals studying at the School of ESL and Immigrant Education.

The program is delivered online and is asynchronous, allowing students to learn at their own pace, equipping them with the skills necessary for working confidently in the wind power industry at all levels. One of the main features of the program is its state-of-the-art 3D interactive wind turbine simulator.

"This is a program I would recommend for anyone looking for an opportunity to change their life," Wilson said.

Elder Shirt's presence was felt deeply in the George Brown community through her hosting of cultural sessions and annual speeches. Her leadership, guidance, and scholarship in Indigenous cultural and traditional teachings created a legacy among Indigenous learners that will never be forgotten.
