Eligibility for a provincial training program offered through George Brown College for in-demand jobs has been expanded to include social assistance recipients, gig workers, youth, and newcomers to Ontario.

The Ontario government has updated and expanded the Better Jobs program, formerly known as Second Career, to give more people the opportunity to gain a new skill set and start earning bigger paycheques or to retrain after a lay-off. The goal is to match job seekers’ skills to employers’ needs in the community.

People who may benefit from Better Jobs Ontario include Ontario residents who have been unemployed for six months or more, laid-off workers, gig workers, and individuals receiving social assistance.

The Better Jobs program provides up to $28,000 in tuition and other costs for a program one year in length or less that leads to an in-demand job. Other recent changes to the Better Jobs program make the application process easier (you apply through the Employment Ontario website).

George Brown offers many programs that may be eligible for support through Better Jobs Ontario.
