7 ways to prep for the new semester

The Spring 2021 semester for full-time students starts Monday, May 10. Follow the steps below to set yourself up for success in the new term. 

  1. Attend orientation events.

    The Student Success team plans a range of great online events to make sure you're fully prepared for the new semester. New students are strongly encouraged to register for their program orientation. All students are welcome to join other orientation and transition events.

  2. Learn about Online Learning.

    Our Online Learning site includes five modules you can complete at your own pace. It also provides tips and helpful advice for students on communicating with your profs and classmates; time management and goal-setting strategies; essential information about our online learning platform Blackboard; and an extensive list of college resources available to you.

  3. Learn about and register with Accessible Learning Services
    Supports for students with physical, sensory, learning, medical or mental health disabilities are available through Accessible Learning Services.

  4. Order your books and class supplies.
    Our Campus Store provides home delivery. You can order everything you need for your classes online.

  5. Get familiar with academic supports.

    Our Tutoring and Learning Centre (TLC) and our Library Learning Commons (LLC) teams are ready to provide online support for the spring semester. You can connect with them in different ways, including live chats. If you need academic support don’t hesitate to reach out for help.

  6. Learn how to stay physically and mentally healthy off-campus.

    The pandemic has been a stressful time and that’s why it’s more important than ever to practice self-care and take time for activities that promote physical and mental health. We have online resources available to help you.

  7. Connect to your campus community.

    We may not be able to hang out with friends on campus, but you can stay connected to the GBC community via our social media channels. Stay up to date on college news by following the college’s main channels and stay connected to your community by following our Student Life Instagram.
