Support the Harris Family Maple Fund

The Harris family

The Harris Family Maple Fund was established in 2016 to honour the life of Beresford Harris. Beresford was a subsistence farmer in Jamaica, who worked hard to support his family and community. Believing deeply in the power of education, Beresford sent his family to Canada so that they could have access to new opportunities that would allow them to build a better life for themselves. Sadly, the world lost Beresford Harris in 2010.

In memory of Beresford, his family chose to create a scholarship that would support students in George Brown College’s Augmented Education program. This program helps individuals dealing with complex mental health and addiction challenges, overcome barriers to education. This scholarship recognizes the hard work and dedication of the students in this program. This acknowledgment provides these students with a renewed sense of enthusiasm for their studies and allows them to dream and work towards a better future for themselves.

This scholarship supports full-time students in the Augmented Education program, who are experiencing financial need as determined by George Brown College policies. Eligible students will also self-identify as being a sole-support parent, shared support parent or a parent with privileges, and demonstrate a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Donations to the Harris Family Maple Fund will elicit a tax receipt for the full amount. 100% of your donation will directly go to support the scholarship.
