Dr. Esther Farlinger was an outstanding individual who continuously gave back to her community. Esther’s passion for education, the arts, health and sports was evident in the professional and volunteer work she chose to lead. It is with great sadness that the world lost Dr. Farlinger on September 9, 2021.

Recognized for her dedication, excellence and thoughtfulness, Dr. Farlinger was awarded the Order of Ontario, the Queens Jubilee Medal, honoured by Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and was a recipient of the Woman of the 21st Century Award. She also received an honorary Doctorate in Law degree from Windsor University. Esther’s achievements serve as an inspiration.

Among the countless Board committees Esther served on, she spent over 15 years on the George Brown College Foundation’s Board of Directors. Her drive to ensure that no student was denied a post-secondary education at George Brown College, has left a legacy on the scholarship program available to students today.

To honour Esther’s wishes, she has asked that donations made in her memory support the Esther Farlinger Award for Event Planning Endowment, one of three awards she established at George Brown College in her name. This award supports students in the Special Events Planning Program who are self-motivated, passionate, and demonstrate higher-than-average abilities within their program. This scholarship awards students that show openness and commitment to working with others and assists students who are experiencing financial need.

Donations to the Esther Farlinger Award for Event Planning will elicit a tax receipt for the full amount. 100% of your donation will directly go to support the scholarship.
