George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn, work and live in the community with each other.
These policies outline the expectations for using Library Learning Commons spaces and services and reflect a shared commitment to creating a respectful and welcoming environment for everyone.

Library Learning Commons Policy
Below are some of the most pertinent policies and additional information for easy perusal.
Donations
The LLC does not accept donations; please consider donating your gently used books to Better World Books.
Noise
The Library has designated Silent, Quiet, and Collaborative Zones allowing for varying study and conversational needs.
- Silent: Any disruptive noise is strictly forbidden, making these areas perfect for independent, distraction-free study.
- Quiet: This zone permits minimal noise but requires users to keep conversations hushed to respect others focusing nearby.
- Collaborative & Study Rooms: Open discussion is welcome. Group study tables and bookable study rooms are available for team projects and conversations.
Food & Drink
If food could impact the experience of others in our shared space, please take it outside.
- Covered drinks & tidy snacks are OK! (Please, no drinks without sealed lids on or around the computers.)
- Food that is messy or has a noticeable smell is not permitted in the library.
The Library reserves the right to protect collections, space, furniture, and facilities and to regulate the consumption of food and beverages in all spaces as outlined here.
Respectful Use
The Library is committed to creating a positive learning environment for students and authorized users. The library space has one central philosophy; if students act in a disrespectful way towards students, staff, or the library space, they will be asked to leave. It is at the discretion of library staff to enforce and interpret the Respectful Use Guidelines.
Examples include:
- Non messy/smelly foods and drinks with lids are allowed in the library; however, if food or drink is creating a mess or has a strong odour, students will be asked to finish the food elsewhere.
- Acceptable noise levels are allowed in the library; however, if students are being disruptive in noise-controlled areas, they will be asked to leave.
- Adhering to the Study Room terms and conditions, such as respecting the maximum booking per day and returning furniture to its original configuration.
