How to Schedule and Start a Class Meeting
- How to schedule a recurring class meeting
[IMPORTANT: schedule the meetings through Brightspace or your students won’t be able to see it in their course shell.]
- In your course shell, click on the MS Education tab.
- Click on the meetings button (if visible, if not skip to the next step).
- Click on the “New Meeting” button on the top right corner of the page.
- Add a title [add recommendations for naming convention].
- Click the “Add entire class” button. All students’ names will appear in the “Required attendees” field right above. (Note: Classes with more than 400 users can either divide the list or use the “Allow anyone in the course to join” option.)
- Select a start and end date / time for the session.
- Click on the “Make recurring” button.
- In the “Repeat” pop-up window:
- Check the start date.
- Select the type of repeat (every 1 week for example)
[NOTE: if you have multiple weekly sessions happening at different times, you must create a separate meeting for each.] Select the day(s) when the session(s) occur. - Select the end date.
- Click the “Save” button.
- (Optional) Type in any details for the meeting.
- Click the “Save” button on the top right corner of the page (you might have to scroll up).
- Your newly created meeting will appear in the “Meetings” page under the “Upcoming” tab.
Instructions for Large Classes
- If your class has more than 400 students, use the “Allow anyone in the course to join” option instead of sending individual invitations.
- Sending more than 400 invitations in a single day may cause your account to be blocked.
- You can copy the invitation link and share it in an Announcement within the course for easier access.
- How to edit a meeting
NOTE: when a new student joins the course, editing the meeting allows them to see the class meeting in their Brightspace course shell.
- Click on the “Edit” button, then select “Edit series”.
- Make the changes to the meeting.
- Click the “Save” button.
