George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn, work and live in the community with each other.
What is Online Teaching?
Online teaching comes in many forms from synchronous video-conferenced lecture classes (i.e. remote teaching) to fully asynchronous courses containing learning modules.
Synchronous online
Remote delivery with live lectures delivered over a video conferencing tool like MS Teams. Students progress through the course at the pace determined by the instructor. Similar in structure to a face-to-face course but students attend remotely.
Asynchronous online
All content delivered fully online. Lectures, if any, are delivered via pre-recorded video watchable at any time by the student. Students progress through the course materials at their own pace. Course may contain some synchronous office hours or voluntary live session
George Brown TLX Course Quality Checklist
The George Brown TLX Course Quality Checklist is a structured, developmental tool that supports high quality teaching and learning across all modalities at George Brown Polytechnic. It is adapted from the Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric and aligned with our Teaching and Learning Excellence (TLX) principles.
The checklist outlines the essential expectations for course design, learning outcomes, assessment practices, learner support, and accessibility. It provides faculty and program teams with a clear and consistent framework to evaluate whether a course meets institutional standards that promote student success.
By using this checklist during course development and review, George Brown Polytechnic supports engaging, inclusive, and effective learning experiences that reflect the institution’s academic values and commitment to excellence.
If you need support or would like recommendations to help your course meet the checklist requirements, please contact Evelyn for a course review.
