Unlocking Innovation: Ontario's IPON Grant Empowers Innovators
Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) offers a valuable grant program aimed at helping Ontario-based innovators, researchers, and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) protect and commercialize their intellectual property (IP). This initiative provides up to $35,000 in funding along with expert guidance to support IP strategy development and legal protections like patents and trademarks.
Through IPON, eligible participants gain access to services such as IP assessments, commercialization planning, and one-on-one mentorship. The goal is to empower innovators to turn their ideas into viable assets that strengthen Ontario’s economy.
Applicants must be based in Ontario, have fewer than 500 employees, and show potential for commercial impact. The program is open to entrepreneurs, researchers, and growing businesses with the rights to their IP.
Support at George Brown College
George Brown College’s Office of Research & Innovation is also available to support innovators, especially those within the college community through the IPON Grant process. The team can provide guidance on application preparation, IP readiness, and connect applicants with the right tools and resources to enhance their chances of success.
