George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn, work and live in the community with each other.

Honour, Learn & Act at GBP Event
On June 1st, we will gather as the Indigenous George Brown community to mark the beginning of National Indigenous History Month with a celebration grounded in honour, remembrance, education, and action. While there are many solemn and difficult dates throughout the year that call us to reflect on the losses and injustices experienced by Indigenous Peoples, this day is intentionally centred on uplifting the strength, resilience, and vibrant cultures of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities.
Students, faculty, senior management, and community members will come together to acknowledge our shared responsibility to promote Indigenous histories and support Indigenous youth. The event will feature local drummers, dancers, and singers, as well as George Brown youth entertainers, along with food, an Indigenous vendors’ market, and community greetings, creating a welcoming space grounded in connection rather than formal speeches.
