George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn, work and live in the community with each other.

Standardized Testing Procedures
Identity verification
All test takers must present valid, non-expired photo identification prior to testing. Identity must be verified before access to an assessment is granted.
Secure testing environment
Personal belongings and electronic devices are stored in lockers or designated storage areas. Only instructor-approved or accommodation-approved materials are permitted in the testing space. All testing materials, including scrap paper, are collected at the end of the assessment.
How we supervise and monitor testing
Trained invigilation
Assessment Centre employees are trained to monitor student conduct, identify potential academic integrity concerns, apply procedures consistently, and document observations objectively.
Video monitoring
All test-alone rooms are equipped with cameras. Video monitoring supports academic integrity, student safety, and consistent testing conditions and is used in accordance with institutional policies and privacy requirements.
Authorized and unauthorized materials
Authorized materials
Permitted materials are determined by the course instructor or documented accommodation plans. Any formula sheets or memory aids must be approved and provided to the Assessment Centre in advance of testing. Any approved electronic aids or devices are inspected by staff or students are expected to use Assessment Centre devices.
Unauthorized materials and actions
Assessment Centre staff monitor unauthorized aids, misuse of approved materials, access to pre-prepared work, unapproved technology, collaboration, or impersonation.
If There is a Concern About Academic Integrity
If a concern is observed during testing, the incident is documented and the test is stopped and collected. Where appropriate, any unauthorized materials will be collected and/or documented. Staff will contact the course instructor, Admissions, or the external institution with this information. All decisions around next steps rest with the appropriate academic department or institution.
Academic integrity procedures apply to all students, including those writing with accommodations. Procedures are designed to uphold integrity while maintaining accessibility and consistent testing conditions.
Building Trust Through Transparency
The Assessment Centre’s integrity practices are proactive, documented, and consistently applied. We work collaboratively with faculty to support assessment standards.
Faculty are encouraged to contact the Assessment Centre at their campus to discuss testing procedures, academic integrity safeguards, or complex assessment needs.
