George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn, work and live in the community with each other.
Mission
The AI Centre of Excellence strengthens AI capacity, capability, and adoption across George Brown Polytechnic by providing co-ordinated guidance, practical resources, training opportunities, and implementation support. The centre supports the George Brown community in using AI in ways that are responsible, secure, inclusive, human-first, and aligned with institutional priorities.
Vision
The AI Centre of Excellence will support George Brown Polytechnic in continuing to lead with a responsible, practical, and people-centred approach to AI adoption. Through shared guidance, accessible learning, and coordinated support, the centre will strengthen institutional confidence, build shared capacity, and move AI from exploration to sustainable implementation.
This vision is guided by a simple call to action: Think Boldly. Question Deeply. Act Purposefully.
This statement reflects how the AI Centre of Excellence approaches responsible AI adoption: with curiosity, care, and intention. It encourages the George Brown community to think boldly about what is possible, question deeply to understand risks and limitations, and act purposefully in ways that strengthen learning, work, and service across the polytechnic. The centre takes the same approach by creating a space for thoughtful exploration, critical reflection, and practical action so AI adoption at George Brown remains human-first, responsible, and aligned with institutional priorities.
Strategic focus
The AI Centre of Excellence is focused on three connected priorities: capacity, capability, and adoption.
Capacity
Capacity is about building the institutional structures, guidance, and supports needed to use AI responsibly at scale. This includes creating shared resources, strengthening governance pathways, supporting clear communication, and providing the George Brown community with a trusted place to find AI-related information.
By building capacity, the AI Centre of Excellence strengthens institutional readiness and ensures that AI adoption is guided by shared principles, clear expectations, and responsible-use practices.
Capability
Capability is about developing the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to use AI effectively. This includes AI literacy, training, workshops, tool guidance, leadership fluency, and role-specific learning opportunities for employees, faculty, students, and teams.
By building capability, the AI Centre of Excellence supports the George Brown community in understanding both the possibilities and limitations of AI, asking stronger questions, and making informed decisions about how and when to use AI.
Adoption
Adoption is about moving from exploration to responsible implementation. This includes supporting practical AI use in teaching, learning, operations, student support, and administrative workflows while keeping privacy, security, ethics, accessibility, and human oversight at the centre.
By supporting adoption, the AI Centre of Excellence advances AI use that is purposeful, sustainable, and aligned with the needs of the George Brown community.
Moving forward
Together, these priorities, along with our mission & vision, guide the work of the AI Centre of Excellence and shape how George Brown Polytechnic approaches AI across the institution. The centre supports thoughtful exploration, practical learning, and responsible implementation as AI continues to evolve.
