Program Comparison Help

Decision-making made easy! This tool gives you a breakdown of individual programs offered at George Brown College and how they differ from other programs you’re interested in. Use this tool to select up to 10 programs to compare, helping you make the right choice for the career you want.
Instructions:

1. Under Program Comparison, click Add a New Program

2. Search for one of the programs you’re interested in (either alphabetically, by interest or by job)

3. Click on the title of the program in the menu

4. Click Add to Comparison

5. Continue searching for programs using steps 2-4

6. When you’re done, clicking Program Comparison will give you a preview of the programs and the option to delete, add or clear all

7. Open Program Compare for more details and an easy-to-read comparison of the programs you’ve selected

Awards and Scholarships, General Information

George Brown College’s Awards program recognizes excellence and assists students with the costs of their education through non-repayable scholarships, awards, and bursaries.

You can see a list of our GBC AwardsProgram broken down by division or school.

George Brown College is pleased to present the new GBC Awards Online Application system! GBC Awards will allow you to identify awards, scholarships and bursaries you may be eligible for, apply on-line, and track the status of your application.

Go to GBC Awards! 

Applying for Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries in GBC Awards is a multi-step procedure. Please see below some specific instructions that may assist you in navigating the online profile and application. Please note that while the profile will take 30 to 45 minutes, you can apply for individual awards quickly and easily.

Please feel free to open a new student account for future use. You can Download Guidelines Here PDF icon. We will also notify you of any external awards, scholarships and bursaries you may be eligible for based on your GBC Awards! Profile.

Forgot your GBC Awards Password or Username? Use the "Forgot My Password" option as follows, if you do not remember your log-in information.

  • Click on "Forgot My Password" on GBC Awards, a pop-up message will appear.
  • Enter your GBC Student Number OR GBC Awards username, and press "submit".
  • An email containing a temporary password and your username will be automatically emailed to the email address provided by you in your GBC Awards profile.

Definitions

Scholarships: Recognizes exceptional talent/promise or academic excellence, as defined by:

  • A minimum grade of 80% for students entering from secondary school; or
  • A minimum college grade point average of 3.0; or
  • Top academic performance, when an award evaluates students’ marks in comparison to their peers. 

Awards: combines both academic criteria, such as cumulative grade point average, and non-academic criteria, such as community service or demonstrated leadership within your program.

Bursaries: Primarily designed to assist students with financial need. Recipients must be in good academic standing.

Departmental Awards: Available to George Brown College students based on their program.

College-Wide Awards: Are not program specific, although they may differentiate eligibility based on other factors (i.e. demographics).  College-wide awards are available only to George Brown College students.

External Awards: Are available to students beyond George Brown College (i.e. provincially or nationally), and are provided and administered through external government, corporate, or community organizations.

Entrance Awards: Recognizes prospective students who are not yet attending George Brown College. Adjudicated in the Spring of each year prior to the academic year the student would be attending GBC.

In-Course Awards: Recognizes students who are already attending GBC including 1st year students. 


Important Information!

Awards, scholarships and bursaries are considered part of a student’s taxable income for the year. The college will issue T4A forms to all recipients in the spring of the year following the year in which the funding was paid.
Scholarships, awards, and bursaries listed are subject to change without prior notice, and are subject to conditions as may be set down by the college and/or the donor of the award.
