Behind every successful student stands a supportive teacher, and at the 2024 annual Scotiabank Vanier College National Marketing Case Competition in Montreal, George Brown College students and professors earned honours.

The student team of Torry Tough, Jessica Keffer and Matthew Pears made the Centre for Business and the entire George Brown College community proud, showcasing talent and dedication that earned the team a bronze medal.

"Their stellar performance not only exemplified their exceptional skills in marketing but also highlighted their ability to collaborate effectively as a team," GBC Professor Thomas Arhontoudis said. "Despite the fierce competition, the George Brown College team demonstrated innovation, strategic thinking, and insightful problem-solving, earning them well-deserved recognition and respect for the George Brown College brand."

GBC profs honoured for longtime competition coaching efforts

Two GBC professors from the Centre for Business — Arhontoudis and John Hendrikx — received the prestigious Builder's Award for their 15-year commitment to mentoring and coaching students for the case competition and their unwavering dedication to student learning and success. The award underscores their invaluable contributions to the growth and excellence of GBC's marketing programs.

"I wouldn't be where I am today without some amazing professors believing in me and George Brown College giving me opportunities to join, compete and win multiple provincial and national marketing case competitions," 2024 case competition bronze medallist Tough said. "I'm grateful for the opportunities I had to represent my school and showcase my skills. They have paved the way for a successful future. I'm excited for what's to come, and glad I chose George Brown College to continue my education."

Fellow bronze medallist Keffler said her team's coaches provided "unparalleled support."

"Representing George Brown College at provincial and national case competitions was not only an honour but also a transformative experience that blended rigorous academic training with real-world challenges," she said. "Thanks to the unparalleled support from our amazing coaches and the many opportunities provided by GBC, I've grown immensely, both personally and professionally. GBC isn't just an institution; it's truly a launchpad for future business leaders."
