George
Brown's Centre for Community Services and Development
meets the needs of our urban community with the most
comprehensive range of programs
in the province and the largest number - over 1,000!
- of community agency partnerships.
There are many areas of social service for professionals to pursue, such as behavioural sciences, social service work with “at risk” youth, career counselling or advocacy and community development. With this in mind, we have developed pathways between programs within the School of Social and Community Services so students can easily expand their knowledge and abilities and customize their career potential.
As Toronto continues to explode in size and diversity, as we experience
rapid social change, one thing is sure: more counsellors and community
workers are needed to reach out and make a difference. In class and in
the field, you will gain the skills and understanding needed to do just
that. You'll learn to support individual and community development
through sound analysis, counselling, caring program development, and
effective advocacy.
Our Programs
The Centre prepares students by providing student-centred
programs that teach independent thinking, intervention skills, teamwork,
leadership, community awareness, and professionalism, as well as a
full range of programs from preparatory, to diploma, to post-diploma.
The Centre for Community Services and Development has two schools which
offer a total of nine full-time programs, two continuing education programs,
customized training, and applied research. All activities focus on improving
the social fabric of our community.
