Becoming a TLC Tutor

    If you have strong academic skills, a passion for learning and the patience to help others learn, you may be interested in becoming a Peer Tutor at the TLC.

    Benefits of Becoming a Peer Tutor

    • Regular weekly hours flexible to your course schedule

    • Compensation: $14.00/hr

    • Extensive initial training in subject area and tutoring strategies through the TLC's certified International Tutor Training Program (certified through the College Reading & Learning Association), with ongoing skill development throughout the semester (Tutor Training)
      • Tutors who successfully complete the tutor training program will receive a certificate of completion underwritten by the TLC and CRLA.

    TLC Peer Tutor Qualifications  

    • Current full-time George Brown student

    • GPA of 3.0 or higher

    • College English grade of A (English tutors) or college-level math grade of A (math tutors), or college-level accounting grade of A (accounting tutors)

    • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

    • Punctual and reliable
    • Ability to work in an environment where a diversity of people and situations is encountered

    • Tutoring experience and/or prior university-level relevant coursework an asset

    • Recommendations from GBC faculty an asset

    • Successful completion of a practical skills assessment upon interview
