Written in 1959, the play takes place in a quaint village slowly being overcome by its citizens turning into Rhinoceros. Reportedly, this play was the playwright’s response to seeing people in his personal life slowly become Nazis sympathizers
during the Second World War, but in this story they are Rhinoceratized after getting Rhinoceritis. Sometimes funny, sometimes morally overwhelming, the hero of the play must choose between succumbing or resisting, ultimately leaving us with
a vision of hope for humanity.
