TORONTO (September 2, 2014 ) - George Brown College president Anne Sado has been named one of this year's Top 25 Women of Influence by Women of Influence, Inc. Sado received this prestigious distinction for her many achievements as a senior executive and the contributions she has made at George Brown College and across the city of Toronto. She was one of only five women acknowledged for their influence in the Public Sector category.
"I'm thrilled to receive this award along with so many extraordinary women leaders," said Sado. "I can't thank Women of Influence enough for showcasing the accomplishments of Canadian women executives who are propelling our economy and communities forward. To be counted among them is a true honour."
This announcement adds to Sado's long list of outstanding achievements, including an appointment to Member of the Order of Canada last year. She was also named a Women of Influence Diversity Champion and received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, and has been named one of Canada's most powerful women three times by the Women's Executive Network (WXN).
Sado became George Brown's first female president in 2004 and under her direction the college has experienced among the greatest enrolment growth of all 24 Ontario colleges and has doubled the number of George Brown graduates entering the workforce. Sado, who was named Chair of Polytechnics Canada in 2013, has led George Brown to become one of Canada's largest, most diverse and respected colleges, strengthening the cultural, social and economic fabric of the city of Toronto.
She will join her fellow recipients on December 4, 2014 at the Deloitte Women of Influence Luncheon at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre where Premier Kathleen Wynne will be keynote speaker.
"The level of influence, stature and accomplishments of the Top 25 Women of Influence is without question, outstanding and unparalleled," said Carolyn Lawrence, President and CEO of Women of Influence. "Although this year's women have varied backgrounds, professions, personalities and skills, they all share the same passion, ambition and drive to make meaningful and transformational contributions to the Canadian economy, their communities, their workplaces, and to the next generation. They are women of influence in every sense of the word."
Sado will be profiled alongside fellow recipients in the winter issue of Women of Influence magazine. From September 2-15 supporters are encouraged to vote for Sado as the woman they would like to see featured on the cover. To place your vote, visit www.womenofinfluence.ca/top-25-cover-contest.
