Special Requirements

Important Immigration Information

Applying for a Study Visa to Italy

If you are a non-EU student, you will be required to apply for the proper study and residency Visas through your local Italian Embassy, Consulate, or local Italian authorities in your country. More information about this process will be added to this section at a later date.

Applying for a Study Permit to Canada

Please note: Students will require a Study Permit and “Co-op” work permit for the in-Canada portion starting in May 2021 and finishing at the end of August 2021.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) regulations state: “If the overall course of study is greater than six months, then the student requires a study permit for the in-Canada portion of the program, even if the in-Canada portion is less than six months. The duration of the study permit should be for the duration of the in-Canada portion only [4 months].”

The processing time for Canadian study permits in Italy is approximately 3 weeks, but this could change without notice.

Students should apply for their study permits and co-op work permits well in advance of arriving in Canada.

In addition, they will need to request the appropriate George Brown supporting documentation (i.e., an enrolment letter and a co-op work permit support letter) to be able to apply for their study permit and their co-op work permit.

Please note that students of this program are not eligible for a postgraduate work permit upon completion of the program, since the in-Canada component is only 4 months.

Please see our Study Permit for International Students page for further information.

Students are solely responsible for ensuring that they are in compliance with all Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) regulations at all times during their studies and while in Canada, including any medical or study and work permit-related requirements.

Applicants and students of George Brown College are encouraged to consult the CIC website or consult the CIC Call Centre at 1-888-242-2100 to confirm or clarify immigration-related information and requirements.
