Visit the new School of Design at Waterfront Campus

If you’re thinking of applying to our School of Design, you may have the opportunity to study at the Daniels Waterfront – City of the Arts. This extension of our current Waterfront Campus is located at Queens Quay East and Lower Jarvis Street. In addition to hosting part of the School of Design, this 110,000-square-foot space is home to some pretty interesting design-focused initiatives.

The Innovation Exchange

This research hub is where students, industry and business partners come together to develop new products and bring new ideas to market. Within the Innovation Exchange, you can find:

  • An industry training centre focused on teaching skills the design industry is looking for
  • The Future Ways of Living Laboratory, a collaborative space where students, faculty and industry partners work together on applied research projects using digital and information technology trends
  • The Digital Media and Gaming Incubator that provides opportunities for start-ups to be mentored as they create new products
  • Specialized labs that include facilities for usability testing and augmented and virtual reality, a maker space and an Internet of Everything lab

Institute without Boundaries

As if all this wasn’t enough, the new School of Design is also the new home to the Institute without Boundaries Open New Browser Window. Established in 2003, it has become a collaborative space that centres around real design projects of public and global significance. Like the Innovation Exchange, the collaboration here is between students, faculty, businesses and industry partners. Our Interdisciplinary Design Strategy postgraduate program is based out of the Institute, and there’s also a research division and a professional projects division.

Studying here, you’ll be sharing space with some great artistic endeavours including Artscape Launchpad, OCAD University and HXOUSE Open New Browser Window. HXOUSE, an arts and design hub started by La Mar Taylor, creative director for Toronto-born singer The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) and the XO brand, has partnered with George Brown College to offer the No More Dreams program. This will run out of the Artscape Daniels Launchpad.
