Who'd use wood? We would! The provincial government recently announced a $7.8-million investment in the research, education and construction of mass timber buildings as part of Ontario's Climate Change Action Plan. The funding announcement comes as George Brown College prepares to construct a tall wood building at our Waterfront Campus.

Our project is called The Arbour. Construction is slated to start in 2021 and when the project is complete it will be Ontario's first institutional tall wood building. The Arbour will serve as a living lab and will be home to the Mass Timber Institute, so we can share our research and learnings from sustainable building practices.

The provincial government's investment aims to spur research and development of innovative wood products, provide funding for post-secondary skills development in wood construction and to support the building sector in fighting climate change.
