Mandarin donates $100,000 to George Brown's Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts capital expansion

George Brown College has received a $100,000 gift from the Mandarin Restaurant Franchise Corporation for the capital expansion of its Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts (CHCA).

The donation was celebrated at a cheque presentation on March 7, 2017 at CHCA with Mandarin Restaurant's founding partners James Chiu, George Chiu, Diana Chiu, Tina Chiu and K.C. Chang, as well as George Brown College Vice President of Corporate Services, Mark Nesbitt, Academic Chair, Georg Brown College Chef School, Christine Walker, and George Brown College Foundation President Cindy Gouveia, George Brown College Foundation Board Member, Gary Teelucksingh and Program Manager for Augmented Education and Hospitality Services and 50th Anniversary Fundraising Committee Member, Suzanne De Freitas.

"Mandarin is proud to support George Brown's Chef School by providing valuable learning space for students to become experts in the culinary field," says George Chiu. "We hope that through this contribution, students can benefit from state-of-the-art facilities at the college that will assist them in obtaining a high-quality education." 

Since 2006, Mandarin has been supporting George Brown student scholarships. The Mandarin Restaurant Franchise Corporation Scholarship recognizes students in the Culinary Management Program and the Culinary Skills – Chef Training Program for their spirit of cooperation, strong teamwork skills and desire to pursue a career in the restaurant sector.

To date, nine students have been recognized with this award.
