How to find a part–time job on campus

Are you looking for a part-time job during the school year? Finding something on campus can make the process of juggling school and work a little bit easier.

There are several on-campus options. George Brown College hires students for peer coach, tutor, notetaker and other positions and the Student Association also offers employment for students.


Check the college's job posting site to view part-time positions on campus. Sign in, click 'search postings' and then select 'on campus jobs.'

GBCareers also lists hundreds of off-campus opportunities.

You can also visit your campus Career Centre.


Here's an overview of some on-campus positions available to students:

Work Study program

Students find part-time work in various departments at the college for up to 15 hours per week through our Work Study program. Most positions are posted on GBCareers Open New Browser Window.

When to apply: Mid to late August is a good time to check GBCareers for available positions.

Applied research assistant

Students can apply for applied research assistant positions—a great way to earn extra money and gain experience solving real-world problems.

When to apply: Applied research projects are happening at the college year round. You can email your resume to If you’re interested in working on applied research projects, it’s recommended that you reach out to a faculty member in your division who’s involved in research.

Campus bookstores

Students can apply for positions at their campus bookstore Open New Browser Window.

When to apply: Students can drop off a resume and a copy of their schedule at any time.

In class notetaker

Students can be paid to record notes and submit them in a timely fashion, as an in-class notetaker.

When to apply: The best time to apply is two weeks before the start of each semester. You can apply on our Peer Employment Program page.

Peer coach

The college's PeerConnect centres hire peer coaches to run workshops, lead events and activities and provide guidance for students in learning techniques, time management and wellness.

Applicants must have completed at least one semester of study to be considered for the position.

When to apply: The best time to apply is at the end of each semester, but PeerConnect will accept applications at any time. You can apply on our Peer Employment Program page

Peer tutor

The college's Tutoring and Learning Centres (TLC) hire English and math tutors. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

When to apply: Spring (for fall term). If you get your application in later, the TLC will keep it on file. You can apply on our Peer Employment Program page.

Student Association of George Brown College

The Student Association Open New Browser Window (SA) hires part-time positions, including Safe Walk and Events Crew staff. You can find these listings on the SA website and on the college's job posting site GBCareers Open New Browser Window.

When to apply: Spring, but some positions will be posted throughout the year.

Welcome Desk staff

The college hires students to work at campus Welcome Desks to provide information to students and visitors.

When to apply: Staff for the fall term are chosen at the Student Leadership Academy’s (SLA) annual summer retreat (find out how to join the SLA). Students can drop off a resume at a Welcome Desk throughout the year if positions need to be filled in the winter term.

Get your foot in the door by volunteering with the SLA

Joining the college's Student Leadership Academy (SLA) is a great way to get your foot in the door during your first semester. Joining the SLA gives you the opportunity to volunteer for George Brown events and meet new people across the college.
