Glenfarclas Distillery donates $50K to fund George Brown scholarships

Glenfarclas Distillery has donated $50,000 to George Brown College to support scholarships for students in our Advanced Wine & Beverage Management program.

The scholarship endowment fund was established in memory of John (Jack) Hanna, the late founder and chairman of John Hanna & Sons Ltd. , Glenfarclas Distillery's Ontario agent. Scholarships will be awarded to students who display strong commitment to the wine and beverage field of study.

“This gift is a touching acknowledgement to John’s life work as a wine entrepreneur,” said George Brown College Foundation President Cindy Gouveia, who accepted the donation on Oct. 21, 2016. “This generous donation will provide financial aid to students who possess the same positive attitude, enthusiasm and respect for the industry as John had.”

The Glenfarclas Distillery has been owned and operated by the Grant family since 1865—one of only a handful of Scottish distilleries to remain family owned and managed. John Hanna & Sons Ltd is an independent wine and spirits import company—one of the oldest and most respected in Canada.

"All of us at Glenfarclas are delighted to have contributed to this scholarship,” said John L.S. Grant, Chairman of Glenfarclas Distillery. “Jack was the first person to get our brand on to the shelves in Canada and has a special place in our history. For that alone, we will always be grateful."
