George Brown revokes honorary degree of winemaker Norman Hardie

In light of the allegations of sexual advances and sexual harassment published in The Globe and Mail on June 19, 2018, George Brown College has revoked Ontario winemaker Norman Hardie’s Honorary Bachelor of Administration (Hospitality).

While the college acknowledges Mr. Hardie’s winemaking talents, we cannot condone or ignore the behaviour described in both The Globe and Mail’s investigation along with Mr. Hardie’s own acknowledgement of the behaviour. It is incongruent with George Brown’s commitment to support survivors of sexual violence and does not reflect the high standards that the college considers in awarding honorary degrees.

It’s important that our community be aware of this action, and by extension our commitment to support survivors of sexual misconduct.
