George Brown has been ranked the top research college in Canada for 2017.

Research Infosource, a leading source of research and development intelligence in Canada, released the annual ranking on November 2, which coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Office of Research and Innovation.

This is the second time we've earned the top spot in the past three years - George Brown was ranked #1 in 2015, as well.

"We’re proud to contribute to Canadian prosperity by partnering with industry and community organizations on applied research which enhances our partners’ competitiveness, efficacy and sustainability, while providing our talented students with problem-solving experience in real world contexts," says Dawn Davidson, George Brown's Associate Vice-President of Research and Innovation.

George Brown received top marks in other 2017 research categories, including:

  • #1 for paid students in research
  • #1 for research income
  • #2 for number of partnerships
  • #2 for number of completed projects

Hands-on experience for students, support for businesses

Research projects at George Brown give students from across the college the chance to work alongside industry professionals, develop their problem-solving skills and gain hands-on experience. Our research activities also provide an important resource for small to medium-sized businesses looking to develop, test and bring new products to market.

“The opportunity to use the hardware and infrastructure of George Brown, as well as a myriad of knowledge brought to these projects by the students and their faculty advisors, means that we were able to cost-effectively have an entire community help us build a product and be competitive,” says Miriam Tuerk, CEO of Clear Blue Technologies – a longtime George Brown industry partner.
