On Tuesday, March 19th, members of Reich+Petch Architects Inc. joined George Brown College’s students, staff and faculty for an evening promoting design excellence and innovation in the architectural community.
Tony Reich, Principal Architect of Reich+Petch, kicked off the evening at the College’s Casa Loma campus with a lecture. Following Mr. Reich’s speech, key members of Reich+Petch presented their newly‑established award to George Brown College senior leaders
The Reich+Petch Award for Design Excellence and Innovation will be awarded to one student each year, over the next five years, from the Centre for Construction & Engineering Technologies’ School of Architectural Studies. The first of these awards
will be granted to a deserving student in the 2019‑20 academic year.
To be eligible for this award, registered full-time students must be in their second or third year of the Architectural Technology program (T109/T169) at George Brown College. Candidates must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and have demonstrated
tangible aspects of design excellence in innovation in their schoolwork and/or extra-curricular projects.
“We hope that this scholarship and Award for Design Excellence and Innovation will promote design and original thinking at the school, with the students at an important stage in their studies”, said Mr. Reich.
Joining Mr. Reich at the lecture and presentation was Whit Petch, Senior Principal at Reich+Petch; Pauline Dolovich, Principle at Reich+Petch; Gonzalo Martinez, Associate and Senior Technologist at Reich+Petch as well as a George Brown Architecture graduate
and Rudra Chauhan, Reich+Petch Designer as well as a Ryerson Interior Design graduate. Also in attendance from George Brown College, were Dr. Cindy Gouveia, President of the George Brown College Foundation; Dr. Adel Esayed, Dean, Centre for Construction
& Engineering Technologies; Ian Mcnab, Interim Chair for the School of Architectural Studies and Pietro Ferrari, Professor and Program Coordinator at George Brown’s School of Architectural Studies.
Following the lecture and cheque presentation, the Reich+Petch group opened their newly-created exhibit on the main floor of the Casa Loma Campus. The exhibit boasts photos, project boards, models and other exciting pieces of Reich+Petch’s past projects.
“We are so honoured to share the innovative work done by Reich+Petch with our students. Their new scholarship award coupled with the visual influence of their exhibit at the Casa Loma Campus will inspire students to be creative, think outside of the box
and strive to be the best they can be each and every day,” said Dr. Gouveia.
