$50,000 gift from Costco Wholesale funds new scholarships for business students

A $50,000 gift from Costco Wholesale Canada will provide new scholarships for students at George Brown College’s Centre for Business.

The donation will establish a new endowment fund to provide financial awards for first-year students in the Business Administration-Retail advanced diploma program.

“Costco Wholesale Canada is pleased to present this $50,000 donation to George Brown in support of student education and entrepreneurship in the retail industry,” says Chris Schweizer, Newmarket Warehouse Manager at Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd.

“Costco has long been a supporter of education and entrepreneurial spirit. These new scholarships support Costco’s personal commitment to excellence, helping students lead successful lives in retailing, whether it’s through the start-up of their own business or providing leadership for an existing retailer.”

George Brown College Foundation President Cindy Gouveia, Centre for Business Dean Maureen Loweth and Shannon Hynes, Director of Alumni Relations and Co-Chair of the 50th Anniversary Committee accepted the cheque from Schweizer at a ceremony at Costco’s warehouse in Newmarket, Ont., on Jan. 18, 2017.

“We offer our sincere thanks to Costco Wholesale Canada for this generous donation,” Gouveia says. “This gift provides a great start to George Brown’s 50th anniversary year, and demonstrates Costco’s commitment to supporting emerging leaders in their respective fields.”
