Polish your job interview skills using VR simulation during Interview Ignite Week, Oct. 25-28

Do you want to strengthen your job interview skills and learn how to polish your pitch for potential employers? We’re inviting students to try a new virtual reality (VR) interview simulation where they can explore the best ways to answer tricky questions, manage stress and learn how to emphasize their strengths in a safe space.

The Teaching and Learning Exchange (TLX), the Career Centre, and the Library Learning Commons (LLC) are hosting Interview Ignite Week, October 25 – 28, during the intersession break. Up to 100 spots are available for students to try this new simulation called Bodyswaps, and participants are eligible to win an Oculus 2 VR headset and other prizes. Employees are also welcome to attend.

The two-hour pilot sessions take place at Waterfront and Casa Loma campuses. Interested students and employees must fill out the registration form to attend.

“We’re excited to give students the chance to access this technology that can help them knock their next interview out of the park, whether it’s for their co-op placement or when they’re applying for positions after graduation,” said Michael Avis, Faculty Facilitator & Teaching Technology Coach at the TLX. “Interview simulation is one of the many ways we can use the Bodyswaps program, and we look forward to testing other innovative applications of this tool in the months ahead.”

Participants must follow COVID-19 safety protocols to attend on-campus activities. Visit the Accessing Campus page for details. All VR headsets and joysticks are sterilized after each use.

How Bodyswaps can help you ace your next interview

When students put on the VR headset they’re transported into a simulated office environment, where they are guided through four learning modules that include exercises on the following topics:

  • how to manage stress and anxiety,
  • how to identify and promote your strengths,
  • how to build a story bank of positive past experiences you can share on the fly, and
  • how to prepare for and answer classic and curveball questions.

What makes the immersive Bodyswaps experience unique is the ability for you to practice your skills and then swap places with other characters in the simulated environment such as the interviewer or your future self to see how you did from a different point of view. The simulation also provides personalized feedback.

Another big benefit of practicing your pitch in Bodyswaps? You work through the modules alone in the judgment-free zone of the simulation.
