  • Registration Information

Registering for IELTS  is a four-step process. Each step may be done online, by email, by mail, or in person:

    Step 1: Application form
    Step 2: Identity Documents
    Step 3: Test Report Forms
    Step 4: Payment

The preferred method for step 1 is to apply online. Candidates who apply online receive 30 free hours of the Road to IELTS preparation course and avoid mistakes in their applications.

    Step 1: Application form

Very important: Gmail and other email providers filter confirmation emails into the PROMOTION folder or even into spam.  You will receive emails from noreply.ors@britishcouncil.org as soon as you finish your online application.  Please check your entire inbox including these folders immediately after you finish for further instructions and details.

    Step 2: Identity documents

The only acceptable documents are a valid passport or Canadian Permanent Resident Card.

Please ensure the scanned copy of your Passport/PR Card identity document:

    • Is valid
    • Has a clear photo
    • Will be the same identification you use on the test day.
    • Clearly states your full name, date of birth, expiry date and identification number. Some passports have the expiry date on another page.

You MUST bring this document with you on the test day for identification purposes. Please do not send your passport away to obtain a travel visa or to be renewed.

Upload your identity document during the online application process. Please follow the instructions carefully.

    Email or Mail / In-person

Scan and email your identity document to ielts@georgebrown.ca within 3 business days of applying online (if you did not upload your identity document during the application process).

Or, photocopy and mail / drop off your identity document to:

George Brown College IELTS Test Centre,
    341 King Street East #419,

Please ensure we receive your identity document within 3 days of applying. You may also bring the document to the test centre in person.

Step 3: Test Report Forms (TRFs)

You will receive one test report form by mail, at your home. The test report forms will be sent by Canada Post on the 13th day after the test. If you wish to pick up your TRF(s), they will be available on the 13th day at the test centre. You must bring your identity document to pick up your test.

During the application process, you may indicate up to 5 receiving institutions. We will send your TRF electronically, or by Canada Post, at no charge, to these institutions.

George Brown College is not responsible for the speed of the Canada Post Delivery service.

    Step 4: Payment

The test fee is $325.00.  Note that all taxes are included.
You will receive one free TRF for yourself and we will send five free TRFs to the receiving institutions you indicated during your application.

    Online payment

Instructions will be given during the online application process. You may pay online for the test or for TRF courier services.

    Telephone payment

Contact the test centre by telephone to provide a credit card number after applying online: 416-415-5000 ext 2564  Do not leave a voice mail with your card number. You may leave your telephone number and we will contact you.

    In person payment

You will receive your confirmation when we receive your complete application.

For cancellations received no later than five weeks before the test date, the test fee will be refunded, less an administrative charge of 25% of your test fee. To cancel your test date, please email us at ielts@georgebrown.ca to receive the appropriate form. Refunds are always issued by cheque and may take 6 to 8 weeks to process.

    Change of Test Date

You may change your test day once as long as you change it no later than 5 weeks before your originally scheduled date and the new test date is within 3 months of the original test date. Illness on the Test Day

If you are ill on the test day we need the following documents from you within five working days of the test date:

    1. An original medical certificate covering the test date (only original sick notes are accepted)
    2. A completed transfer/refund form (please email us for these)

If we have not received BOTH required documents by the fifth working day after the test, you will be marked as absent and forfeit all claims. Copies sent by fax or e-mail are not accepted – please bring them in person.

Please note that we do not accept notes issued by family members. Only notes signed by a certified medical doctor are acceptable.

If both documents reach us within the deadline, you have two options:

    1. A full refund of the test fee, less an administrative charge of 25% of your test fee.
    2. A single transfer to a new test date (within three months of the original test date)

Candidates who receive a transfer to a new test date and who are ill on the second test date are not entitled to a refund of the test fee or to any further transfer to a new test date.
