Campaign Priorities – The Waterfront

George Brown’s new Daphane Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences is one of the first facilities in Canada specifically built to support collaborative, patient-centred health care education. Located at Toronto’s waterfront, near the foot of Sherbourne Street, this eight- storey, 330,000-square-foot facility builds on our strength as one of Ontario’s largest health care educators.

In George Brown’s Schools of Nursing, Health and Wellness, Dental Health and Health Services Management, 3,500 students are learning from our partners in health care as well as educators from other institutions.

Through their hands-on classes, our students are learning how to make improvements to the delivery of health care in Ontario.

  • A state-of-the-art simulation centre with acute and long-term care beds, high fidelity simulation suites, an operating room and a fully-equipped home environment with cooking facilities, reflecting the range of environments where health care is delivered.
  • Innovative inter-professional clinics where students will provide dental services, hearing and health assessments to the public as part of a well supervised, experiential learning experience.
  • A LEED Gold building certification that features some of the most advanced technology, all of which supports the environment required in today’s and tomorrow’s health-care education
