Biography

Ali Haj-Shafiei has been a full time member of the faculty in the Angelo DelZotto School of Construction Management at George Brown College since 2008. Since 2010 in addition to his teaching assignments, Professor Haj-Shafiei coordinated the Civil Engineering Technology Program (T164), and two Post-Graduate Certificate Programs, Construction Management for Internationally Educated Professionals (T403) and Building Information Modeling Management Program (T412). Professor Haj-Shafiei currently coordinates the Construction Engineering Technician program (T161). His teaching style is to share his multifaceted expertise and numerous field experiences with the younger generation so that they could bring excellent skills to the field of construction. Professor Haj-Shafiei also taught for five years as a Lecturer at Civil Engineering Department of Tehran Polytechnic University and he was an academic counsellor to civil engineering undergraduate students. Professor Haj-Shafiei as a dual professional held senior positions in residential and ICI sector of construction both in Canada and internationally. He has been acting as a general manager in Greater Toronto Area for building more than 500 residential units. He has been acting as a project manager internationally in construction of high rises and heavy civil projects including cement plants, steel plants, and petrochemical plants. Professor Haj-Shafiei is an expert in technical and financial management of the construction industry and as an academic expert, he strives to partner with industry to develop curriculum focussed on sustainable design.
