Program Description

Earn an Early Childhood Diploma on a part time basis by taking one to three courses per semester in the evenings.

This program enables students to gain skills and knowledge through the combination of classroom theory and field practice, providing theoretical and practical training with infant, toddler, preschool and school-aged children. The program trains students to work with children aged six weeks to 12 years, in a variety of early childhood education settings.

The part-time program leading to the Early Childhood Education Diploma is offered to men and women who are unable to attend a full-time course of studies, and who wish to complete the diploma through part-time studies.  Field placements are completed in six-week blocks.  Graduates of this program will meet the requirements of an E.C.E. Diploma in Ontario.

Early Childhood Education diploma prepares students for an exciting, rewarding career working with young children.  When students graduate from the program they will be capable of responding to the changing needs of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children in a variety of early childhood settings including child care programs, schools, family resource programs, home child care, hospital playrooms, agencies for exceptional children and before and after school programs (FDK).  The Early Childhood Education program balances academic courses and field placement.  Students are trained in the theory and practice of working with young children.  Graduates will have the skills to meet the responsibilities of a career in early childhood education.

This program enables students to gain skills and knowledge through classroom theory and field practice:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children
  • Assess the needs and interest of children
  • Develop and evaluate curriculum
  • Work in partnership with families and community
  • Create safe, stimulating and culturally sensitive environments for children in their care
